Community Services

The Dogwood City Chapter of the Links Incorporated has impacted the lives of many through implementation of five major facets that parallel those on the organizationís national level: The Arts, Services to Youth, International Trends and Services, National Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services. The Dogwood City Chapter members implements this overall mission through a sisterhood of women who with their combined expertise, enthusiasm, energy, resources and commitment, serve as catalysts for positive change in the Atlanta community and beyond.


The Arts Facet was established at the 14th National Assembly in 1964. Throughout the nation, Links chapters have partnered with their local museums, symphonies, arts councils, educational institutions and corporations in order to support art programs, especially where it focused on the presentation of artists of color, i.e. Awadagin Pratt and the Boys Choir of Harlem. The Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College honored The Links, Incorporated and Walter Mosley for their respective outstanding arts legacy at the New -York Historical Society located in New York City.

Atlanta Public Schools
  • Financed/Sponsored M. Agnes Jones poster art contest on importance of exercise
Link Cluster Chapters
  • Collaborated with Link Cluster Chapters and the Bureau of Cultural Affairs to present Jacob Lawrence, the renown artist

Services to Youth is focusing on providing a range of innovative, substantive and sustainable Pre-K-16 programming which contribute proven results to key educational or social/community issues. Our Mission is ďLinks seizing the opportunity to help our youth achieve.Ē These opportunities may vary from Chapter to Chapter, but all programs will be able to show a positive impact on the children we serve. We are excited to announce that Services to Youth and Education Linkage have joined forces in order to create and sustain synergy of youth-related programming.

Dogwood City Chapterís services related to mission of this facet include:
Project Lead
  • Implemented and maintained a pilot program at Martin Luther King, Jr. middle school to increase self-esteem and decision making skills
  • Coordinated prevention programs on AIDS, alcohol and drug abuse
Atlanta Public Schools
  • With the Link Cluster Chapters, participating in the funding and activities for the single gender school Coretta Scott King Leadership Academy, a City of Atlanta School---Xmas shopping spree, Valentines boxes of grooming supplies, motivational speakers, uniforms
  • Contributed to the program implementation of the Mayorís Next Step Program

The Global Trilogy of International Trends and Services, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), and the Signature Program, ďEducation Across the MilesĒ mission is to expand the global platform for programs designed and developed to service the educational, health and cultural needs of people of African descent throughout the world.

All components of the Global Trilogy will execute a measurable delivery model created to reach women and their families through long-term programs committed to economic empowerment, education for youth, health initiatives and public policy leadership in advocating for social justice. The programs are enhanced through partnership, mentorship and advocacy. It is imperative that programs are accessible to the chapterís membership as well as those in the Diaspora.

Links Foundation, Inc,
  • Supported Links Schools in Africa and Links School In a Box Projects

The focus of the National Trends and Services (NTS) facet is to design community programs that increase awareness of issues that affect the quality of life of African-Americans. NTS will address the significant economic and social inequalities that significantly affect our communities in the areas of education, income, health, employment, and other social indicators of well-being.

Dogwood City Chapterís services related to mission of this facet include:
Habitat for Humanity
  • Funded and built a Habitat Home for a single mother and her family
  • Participated and contributed to the building of another Habitat Home with the Women Helping Women Coalition
The Links, Incorporated established the Health and Human Services facet in response to the chronic health disparities that persist in our communities and result in the decreased life expectancy of African-Americans. This facet brings greater focus, resources, and coordination to The Links, Incorporatedís health initiatives already in existence. With the expansion of partnerships with national health agencies, and more definitive structure and support for our health related signature programs, our mission can flourish.
The mission of the Health and Human Services facet is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources. Community education about health risks is crucial and The Links, Incorporated can play a significant role in providing it.

Hughes Spalding Childrenís Hospital
  • Refurbished the ICU Waiting Area And Ambulatory Surgical Unit
    Emory Hospital Winship Cancer Center
  • Donated $10, 000 to triple negative breast cancer research
Childhood Obesity Imitative
  • Keep It Moving---Phase I- Partnered with Walter and Andrew Young YMCA to sponsor a day of exercise activities and healthy eating tips for middle school children
  • Keep It Moving Phase II- received grant to partner with M. Agnes Jones Elementary School to conduct after school program for 40 kids on importance of healthy eating and exercise
